The Protestant Container – 2007, photomontage, acrylic painting 200 x 400 cm

In April 2007 Susanne Kompast started an art project in the public sphere. For ten days a container was placed on the townhall square in St.Poelten, the capital of the county Lower Austria. Inside the container a panel with the size of 200 cm x 400 cm was hung on the wall. The panel depicted a digitally developed pattern which was the basis for a visual questionnaire. Religion being a neuralgic topic in society she questioned the people on their use of the Bible.
The people passing by were asked to take part at the questionnaire by answering four questions on the theme. The pattern was made of 200 square prototypes each standing for an opinion. The answers of the questions were made visual by a legend of shapes and colours.

The sheets were connected with each other using different ways according to the opinion of the questioned person: The wooden dice refer to the people not having a defined opinion.
